Sarouja

Sarouja is a historic municipality just north of the Old City of Damascus with a population of approximately 83,814. Named after the Mamluk-era prince Sayf ad-Din Sarouja, the district is one of the oldest neighbourhoods outside the city walls.

Sarouja is known for its traditional Damascene houses, historic mosques, and narrow streets. The area has long been a residential and commercial neighbourhood, with small shops, workshops, and traditional bakeries. Its proximity to the Old City makes it a culturally rich and well-connected district.
